About
The world has changed a lot in the past months with the emergence of COVID-19, which has had an unprecedented impact on people’s lives. Following the restrictive measures taken to contain the virus, it has become apparent almost immediately that the impact of the pandemic is beyond the health sector and it will have devastating consequences in education, livelihoods, and other areas. Because of the need for community-led responses and activities, there was a deployment of volunteers at different levels. Youth volunteers came out in force to spread information about healthy behavior and practices, combat the proliferation of online misinformation, and organize themselves to reach to the most isolated and marginalized community groups.
Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO)-supported youth volunteers were among the first to engage in response and recovery plans in collaborations with key stakeholders. In response, VSO conducted two rapid research studies to understand the effect of the pandemic on youth’s personal journeys and to better understand their motivations and the factors that enabled their proactive responses. The findings from the research brought out very interesting insights.
This webinar will delve into those findings and explain how youth volunteering opportunities can be leveraged to reduce the impact of global crises on youth and their communities.
