Advancing Youth Participation in Latin America and the Caribbean

Youth-led and youth-serving organizations play a pivotal role in enhancing young people’s access to educational programs and services and ensuring their meaningful participation in all aspects of life. Mapping of Youth-Led and Youth-Serving Organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean, published in August 2024, presents an analysis of these organizations and recommendations for promoting meaningful youth participation in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

The report includes an overview of 315 organizations in a mapping study, which explored the types of education programming they provide, the subgroups of youth they engage, how youth participate, and other findings. An accompanying mapping spreadsheet provides the framework the researchers used to collect information, the data compiled through this research, and a summary of the results.

Additionally, six case studies delve deeper into two youth-led organizations and four youth-serving organizations from across the region, with examples of programming that engages and empowers youth.

These resources give insight into the region’s current landscape of youth-focused organizations, factors that enable and impede youth participation, and good practices for advancing meaningful and inclusive youth participation in educational programming.
