A Viable Future: Attracting the Youth to Agriculture

This issue paper discusses why young people are not attracted to agriculture, and presents short case studies of initiatives being taken to encourage youth to be in agriculture. The discussion represents the results of a literature review coupled with national consultations and participatory research conducted by Asian Farmers’ Association (AFA) members in 9 countries involving 660 rural youth, and regional consultations with 17 national farmer organizations in 13 countries.
