The Gender and Positive Youth Development (PYD) Community of Practice invites you to its upcoming webinar on Evidence Gap Maps (EGM), regarding the effects of adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) and related transferable skills programming in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The webinar will be hosted on July 12 from 10:00 to 11:00 am ET.
In the past couple of years, International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) has developed evidence gap maps to facilitate the access to evidence and prioritize investment in research related to youth and transferable skills (YTS) and adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH).
Mario Picon, 3ie Senior Evaluation Specialist, will provide an overview of two recent 3ie evidence gap maps focused on youth sexual and reproductive health programming and the intersection with transferrable skills.
- Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Evidence Gap Map
- Youth and Transferable Skills Evidence Gap Map
The presentation will provide:
- A brief explanation of 3ie’s EGMs objectives and process,
- A summary of the two relevant EGMs, and
- Recommendations on how stakeholders, such as ASRH program funders, implementers, researchers, youth supporting organizations and others, can use the EGMs in their programming and planning.
The presentation will be followed by a discussion on how these products can help inform ASRH programming and research investment.

- What counts as “evidence” (and methods for populating the EGM).
- What EGMs can tell us, and what they can’t.
- How to read an EGM.
- ASRH and related transferrable skills in 3ie's EGMs

- Overview of the ASRH EGM, what have we learned? Where is there a lack of rigorous evidence?
- Overview of YTS EGM, and focus on health and safety behavior outcomes.
- How different actors and stakeholders can use the EGMs
- Feedback and examples from stakeholders.

About the presenter:
Mario Picon, PhD
Senior Evalution Specialist for Advancement and Impact Evaluation Services 3ie
Mario Picon is the Senior Evaluation Specialist for Advancement and Impact Evaluation Services in 3ie’s Washington, DC office. He coordinates 3ie’s global public goods, professional services and 3ie’s work in Latin America. He is co-author of scoping reports in the areas of peacebuilding, youth, and intimate partner violence prevention.
Before joining 3ie, Mario worked at the World Bank as a Program Coordinator for Poverty and Social Impact Analysis in South Asia and developed the Gender Innovation Lab South Asia, a platform for impact evaluation and analytical work in support of World Bank operations. His previous evaluation experience includes the independent external evaluation of the Food and Agriculture Organization, and the development effectiveness and poverty departments at the Inter-American Development Bank. He has also worked at the Central Bank, the Ministry of Labor and think tanks in Peru.
Mario has a PhD in Public Policy with a specialisation in international development from the University of Maryland. He also has an MSc in agricultural, environmental and regional economics and another master’s degree in demography from the Pennsylvania State University. He holds a BSc in economics from Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru.
