The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) sought to explore locally-driven solutions to economically empower young women through the Young Women Transform Prize (Prize). Funded through YouthPower Learning, Prize grants were awarded to seven youth organizations and implemented over a 12-month period, from November 2018 through October 2019.
With a deep understanding of their communities, the grantees facilitated economic empowerment by helping girls and young women access physical and financial assets, grow their knowledge, self-awareness, aspirations and leadership skills through training and practice, and enhance a supportive enabling environment through systems change. Their initiatives directly impacted more than 3,000 girls and young women between the ages of 15-29. This report summarizes the lessons learned from the grantees.
