YouthPower Learning Webinar: Skills Development and Economic Opportunity for Young Women
YouthPower Learning held the webinar, "Skills Development and Economic Opportunity for Young Women" co-hosted by the Gender and Positive Youth Development (PYD) and the Cross-Sectoral Skills for Youth Communities of Practice (CoP) on March 7, 2017, from 10:00-11:00 AM EST.
In recognition of International Women’s Day 2017, the webinar brought together researchers and implementers from a variety of backgrounds to discuss their experiences working with skills development programs that target young women as beneficiaries. We examined how skills programs use a gender-sensitive approach to their curriculum and programming and explored challenges and best practices in targeting young women, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
The webinar featured presentations by the speakers, followed by an interactive discussion with online participants.

Aukje te Kaat has a particular interest in life skills education, sexual and reproductive health, and girls’ empowerment. With degrees in sociology and development studies, and work experience as a researcher with Ghent University, UNHCR in Malawi, and youth NGOs in Kenya and Tanzania, Aukje now works with Aflatoun International - a social franchise that develops and examines educational materials for social and financial education. Aukje works with academics, research institutions, and evaluators worldwide to contribute to knowledge around life skills education and financial education.

Sarah Gammage is a feminist economist with the International Center for Research on Women in Washington D.C. with more than 25 years of experience working on gender and development in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Sarah has worked with and for a number of international and multilateral organizations including the International Institute for Environment and Development, Women´s Edge, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the International Labor Organization and UN Women. She has a Ph.D. in Development Economics from the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague and a Master's degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Jackie Ogega has over 16 years of experience in international development with leadership and technical skills in gender integration, female empowerment, peacebuilding, child safeguarding, and protection. At Creative, she provides strategic direction on gender in development approach, advises on gender integration in new business and proposal development, and provides technical gender integration support to ongoing programs. Jackie is the co-founder of Mpanzi Empowering Women and Girls, a non-profit organization. She has worked previously with different organizations including Project Concern International (PCI), Catholic Relief Services (CRS), World Learning, and Religions for Peace. Jackie has a doctorate in peace and conflict studies from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom, a Master of Arts in Gender and Development from Nairobi University in Kenya.
