In addition to answering questions about youth civic engagement, some youth participants were randomly selected for the motivation experiment. This random selection of youth respondents from each country were asked questions about either their experience with violence and conflict or about economic motivations to better understand how these perceptions and experiences may impact their civic engagement. Youth in the control group were not asked about these topics and just replied to the civic engagement questions.
Youth responses indicated that their perceptions and experiences do not affect their perspectives and behaviors related to civic engagement. The Dashboard below indicates in greater detail how youth responded to each of the survey questions when first asked about violence, conflict, and economic constraints.
