About the Assessment
USAID/Eastern and Southern Caribbean (USAID/ESC) is conducting a cross-sectoral assessment that provides a comprehensive snapshot of the youth landscape including salient challenges, needs, opportunities and resources across 11 Caribbean countries and six thematic areas. This assessment must provide a detailed understanding of the drivers that motivate youth and identify the obstacles or constraints that undermine their ability to contribute meaningfully to their country’s political, economic, and social development in a meaningful way. Collectively, these findings must guide the Mission toward more strategic and intentional engagement with Caribbean youth as:
1. Key actors empowered to identify and prioritize challenges and design innovative solutions to the region’s development, economic growth and long-term prosperity, and,
2. Facilitators and beneficiaries of sustainable development solutions that can be brought to scale over time.
The purpose of this assessment is therefore to:
- Investigate the contextual landscape, needs and assets of Caribbean youth in order to inform the Mission’s 2021-2025 Regional Development Cooperation Strategy (RDCS), potentially a Mission Youth Strategy and the design of new activities.
- Collect specific insights on challenges, preferences, and opportunities for improving youth engagement in key programmatic areas (Citizen Security, Youth Development, Economic Growth, Climate Resilience, Education and Health)
